Cirque in Edmonton!

cirqueWhen was the last time you enjoyed a date-night with your husband?  I think that date nights are so very important to a strong marriage.

I recently did an experiment.  Go on weekly date-nights for one whole month.  Yes, that’s four in a row.  Brave?  Yes.  Expensive? Yes, very.  Worth it? Absolutely. More posts on that to come.

Why?  What happens when we spend some one-on-one time with our spouse?  Well, even if you’re watching a show or movie, you’re still sitting close together, touching shoulder to shoulder, maybe even arm in arm or hand in hand.  Touch lightens the soul and brings back those butterflies from the first date nights you shared.  The drinks and dinner before or after the show force you to chat about life, hopefully more than just the number of diapers you changed today, but future hopes, dreams and goals for your family.  The drive?  It’s just wonderfully deliciously silent.  No babies or children in the vehicle.  Peace.  Bonus: putting on an extra bit of eye shadow, my favourite ‘bigger’ earrings and high heels.

All of which leads me to the reason for this post — Cirque du Soleil brings the amazing Dralion show to Edmonton this summer!  What a completely amazing excuse to head out on date-night!  (don’t stop reading now, I have tickets for you to win below!!!)

‘Never been to a Cirque du Soleil show before?  It’s the most amazing acrobatic ability, music, costumes, breathtaking acts you’ll see anywhere.  I recently had to opportunity to go to two Cirque shows in Las Vegas and it truly was the most outstanding live show I have ever experienced.

“Fusing the 3000 year-old tradition of Chinese acrobatic arts with the multidisciplinary approach of Cirque du Soleil, Dralion draws its inspiration from Eastern philosophy and its never-ending quest for harmony between humans and nature. The show’s name is derived from its two emblematic creatures: the dragon, symbolizing the East, and the lion, symbolizing the West.”

To preview the show and see all the amazing acts and characters, visit the site for a sneak-peek!

I have two pairs of tickets to give away!! Don’t miss it … comment below and be sure you’re an email subscriber to this blog to be entered!  Contest Closes Sunday night (July 3, 2011)at 10pm (Mountain).

My husband and I always try to do date nights. Last week he had his mom come on a WEd night and we went for drinks on a patio and a walk through a park. Great time to talk and bond. We have three boys and are working parents (a 5 yr old and twins that are almost three) so our life is busy and we have to make a concerted effort to make time for one another.

would love to go our with my husband . dont have any family in the province so dont go out very often

I would love a date night with my husband. We have 2 kids, 18 months and a 3 year old, and we are so busy with the kids all day, and he is busy working that our evenings are all about being with the kids, and getting house work done. I can’t even remember the last date night we had. I think we have gone on 2 date nights since they have been born. I have never been to Cirque and would LOVE to see a show. Especially with my husband.

Oh my gosh this would be amazing to see with my husband. I honestly can’t remember the last official ‘date night’ we’ve had. Probably before we had kids and our oldest is 4! lol Thanks! 🙂

I would love a date night! Hopefully we will be able to squeeze one in before baby #2 arrives (any day now!)

  7. 7

date night?? what is that? lol, don’t think we’ve had one of those since our first year of marriage!(and our 5th anniversary is in September) Would love to win this prize, have only ever heard great things about Cirque shows.

Sadly, I too am one of the mommies here who have not been out on a date with their husband for well over 1.5yrs and I don’t think going through the drive through at Second Cup counts (laughng).

I have always wanted to see the Cirque as I too have heard wonderful things!

This would be FANTABULOUS to win!

i would love to have a date night.. i actually dont even remember the last time we did.. our girls are 4.5 years and 10 months and my hubby works really long hours and some weekends due to owning his own company that had a rough patch.. (luckily, its coming back, but its definately taken its toll on us over the past 2 years).. I would love to see a cirque de soleil show.. never have and it looks amazing.. 🙂

It is important to have date nights. When we only had one kid , we managed to get out a couple times a month. Now with 2, i cant remember the last time we went out together! seeing Cirque De Soleil would be amazing!

  14. 14

I’d love a date night. Our littlest one is 2 months today and it would be nice to spend time with just my husband.

Up until the other week we hadn’t had one for quite a while. My husband’s parents started taking our daughter on Tues nights and we’ve been taking advantage and going out for dinner. We’ve been needing these nights out and its been nice to reconnect after a hard couple of years.

  17. 17

WOuld love to have a date night with my husband. He works out of town so much that it would be so nice to have my parents babysit the little monkey and for us to go out and reconnect again!!! Cirque du Soleil is awesome, have only seen one show but definitely would want to see another!

  18. 18

My husband would say, we are going to the Circus, if I told him about Cirque de Soleil, but would then turn to me and say this is amazing once we were there! I agree we all need to take time for our spouses and reconnecting. Life gets to chaotic. Thanks for the reminder Modern Mama and the contest.

  19. 19

Our entire family lives back in BC and we rarely go on dates, I think we have been on a date 4 times in 2.5 years. I woul dlove to spend some alone time with my fab hubby! we just recently found a babysitter from the babysitter mixer and it would be great to go to our first ever cirque show!!!!

My husband bought tickets for me and my mum last fall to see cirque de soleil after I gave birth to our daughter. It was such a nice surprise! I was blown away by the show. Fantastic! Would love to have the opportunity to experience this production of cirque du soleil – I bet it’s good 🙂

Great giveaway! Would love to win these – date nites are a necessity, but something that always gets forgotten 🙁

  24. 24

Cirque would be an awesome date night!!! I believe date nights are so important in a marriage, it’s just getting my Hubs to agree and make time for them that’s so difficult 🙁 Great post!

  25. 25

What an awesome date night Cirque would be!! We are both so busy working and putting ourselves through more school, that any free time is spent with our daughter, or working on the house. The very few date nights we do get are absolutely amazing no matter what we do, it’s just a nice break from the everyday. Great post!!

  26. 26

This sounds like an amazing show! Thanks for the chance to win. Definitely need to invest in more date nights.

  27. 27

Pick me, Pick me. We need a date night bad. Last one(s) was our weekend away in Vancouver!

Thanks for the reminder about putting in the effort for our marriages, not just for the kids all the time!

  28. 28

I too would love a date night with my hubby! We talk often about implementing at least a monthly date night, although with work and kids activities, this happens very very infrequently! Perhaps if we were to win tickets to Cirque this would be the motivation that we need to start a regular date night! Great post and great giveaway!

  29. 29

What a wonderful thing to give somebody! A night out for a deserving pair of parents! I would love for it it be myself and my husband. We totally need a date night.

  30. 30

Sounds like a great idea for date night! It would be the first one since having our daughter 9 months ago!! 🙂 now if only babysitting was included!! Hah

  31. 31

ooohh date night….how I miss you…3 kids, no family in town and a busy schedule make these few and far between! Thanks for such a chance 🙂

  32. 32

We also have no family in town, so no free babysitting, making date nights expensive. If we won free tickets to Cirque we could definitely afford to spring for a sitter, though! 🙂

  33. 33

I so agree with you that date nights are important. Before we had our kids, I vowed that we would do at least one date night a month. Two kids later, we’ve had a total of 3! I have a hard time letting go and trusting a sitter, and when I don’t, my husband does. What a bunch of control freaks. I love your 5 things emails though. There are lots of great ideas for things to do even with the kids.

  34. 34

Last time we when on a date was for our birthdays in May. Our birthdays are two days apart, it was the first time that we both we out at the same time since we moved to Edmonton in march. Would love to be able to go out again soon!

  35. 35

I would looooove a date night! our last one was when I was 2 weeks over due so I made my hubby take me to a movie so I could relax a bit. Since then, its tough to leave the baby, pumping is such a chore, and when I do, my hubby is good about taking the baby for me so I can go out for an hour or two with a friend. plus, I would LOOOOVE to see Cirque!!!

  36. 36

Thanks for a great contest. We would love to go to Cirque. With two little ones at home, our date nights these days are usually Scrabble or Mexican Train Dominoes in front of the fireplace or on the deck once they’ve gone to bed. Not the most glamourous date night, but, hey, I still count it as a date!

  37. 37
  38. 38

Wouldn’t that be a great date! I would love the night to take time to actually see my husband. Our hectic days and childcare often keep us too busy….it would remind us going to see Cirque in Vegas…sigh

  39. 39

My husband leaves for work before the kids wake up and gets home after supper dishes are done. The neighbors joke as I leave the house when he gets home and we say a quick “I love you” to each other from our vehicles! When we do cross paths in the house I sometimes ask him, “Who are you and what are you doing in my home?” We definitely need a wonderful Cirque du Soleil night out!

  40. 40

I would love to have a date night with hubby. Being of stay at home Mom of 3 young girls I don’t get out often without the kiddos!!

  41. 41

I would love to see another Cirque show. I saw ‘O’ in Las Vegas about 4 years ago and was completely blown away. My hubby and I rarely get out as we don’t have family or many friends close by. A night out would be wonderful.

  42. 42

I think that it is so important for couples to go on date night. It’s amazing how being parents can sort of kill the passion??? lol I love my little 18mo son, but having a child definitely makes it a little harder to keep the romance alive. I mean half the time you’re trying to just make sure that you don’t have assorted foods/spit up on your outfit/body, never mind trying to actually look decent! Ha! We still try to aim for once a month special dates and we try to do the little things at home like holding cuddling on the couch. We like to go on family walks and hold hands. We would love to have Cirque Du Soleil tickets!!

  43. 43

Ooh, I would love to see the new Cirque show and especially with my husband… as the parents of a special needs child and no family to help out
date nights are a mere figment of our imagination!

I love Cirque shows, my favorite so far is “O”. Date nights are always fun, fingers crossed!

  48. 48

Great post Connie! Cirque is amazing! What shows did you see in Vegas? Looove Vegas and love Vegas cirque 🙂

  49. 49

Would love to go out on a date night to see Cirque. Wanted to go but was unable to afford the tickets as we are saving to buy a house on one income….hahaha. Last date night we were on was for a free preview of “The Green Lantern” before that was sometime in December before our daughter was born. I would LOVE to be picked.

  50. 50

Hey Connie- Always Love reading your Posts!
Hope Van is treating you well!
I Think the last time me and DH went on a date was back in 2010 no lie- Had another baby and Health issues have been keeping me at bay. I’m good to go now. I just have to find a sitter so I am awaiting the next Nw mixer. Whoot-whoot.
Would love to score these tix to Cirque, so I can get those dusty heels back on. LOL
    Take care, Hugs!!!

  51. 51

what about “date nights” with girlfriends for those of us that don’t have partners? It’s also really important to take time to reconnect with your support network, especially when you’re so wrapped up in single parenting!! I’d love to gift this package to one of my best girlfriends as a thankyou for all the help she gives me. 🙂

  52. 52

My wife and I used to try to get out once a month, but it’s been a while since we’ve had just our third baby and its hard to get a sitter. This would be a perfect celebration!

  53. 53

Reading the post was a great reminder of how important it is to spend time together as a couple. New parents often focus all of their attention to their children and are too tired to plan an evening out together and I’m gulity of it. Thank you for the idea of making a conscious effort to make a weekly date night. I can’t remember the last time my husband and I had a date night. It was our 3rd wedding anniversary the other day and we didn’t do anything for ourselves to celebrate the day. We both said, “We’ll just do something on the weekend….” Hmmm…I’ve got to change this and actually plan something. Thanks for the “push’!!!! 🙂

  54. 54

Great post, it is so important to remember to take care of ourselves as well. Happy mom = happy baby! Here’s hoping I win. The show sounds amazing!
