The Fairmont Chateau: Kid-Friendly Whistler

Whistler, the number one ski resort in North America. The landscape is stunning, the skiable terrain unmatched, the number of activities available for families is uncomparable.

(visit this post for Summer fun at Whistler too: Fairmont Chateau Whistler in the Summer for families)

Fairmont Chateau Whistler is one of the best hotels for families in the Village. It is in the Upper Village at the base of Blackcomb mountain. The location makes for a lot of privacy and a little more quiet than the main Village, but with the free shuttle, you can get anywhere you want to be within a few minutes (or a 10-minute walk).

WHISTLER BY THE NUMBERS

  • 2 Mountains
  • 461 inches of Annual Snow Fall (that’s over 38 feet!)
  • 8171 Acres of Terrain
  • 200+ Marked Runs
  • 16 Alpine Bowls
  • 3 Glaciers

Check out all the stats here.

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is a fantastic choice for kid-friendly ski and snow vacation:

Kids Menus

All of the dining options in the hotel (including room service) offer kids menus. The options are healthy and yet kid-friendly. Not many of the restaurants in the village are particularly kid-friendly.

Free Shuttle Around Town

The location of the Fairmont is in the Upper Village so it’s about a 10-minute walk into the main Whistler Village. If the weather is cooler or you simply want a lift, the hotel offers a shuttle with three stops around the village. They come by about every 15 minutes at each stop. If you just want a ride over to a particular restaurant or hot spot, they also have private car service.

Casual & Fine Dining

A robust list of dining options includes the Portobello, the Fairmont’s most casual dining option which is a deli & cafe; the Wildflower with fine dining and an amazing daily breakfast buffet, and the Mallard lounge.

Kids Amenities

Kids robes, specialty toiletries for kids, high chairs in all the restaurants, cribs upon request, it’s all available here. You can also request a fridge for your room if the small bar cooler already there is not sufficient.

Indoor and Outdoor Pools & Hot tubs

Splashtime with the kids has never been more fun (and easy!) With three outdoor hot tubs, one indoor hot tub, an indoor/outdoor pool that is kept very warm year-round, and a lap pool, this hotel has the largest outdoor swimming area in Whistler. All pool towels are also kept right at the pool area.

Breakfast Buffet

It’s simply lovely and includes everything your family could possibly need. Smoothies, fresh omelette and egg station, pastries, breads, yogurts, dry cereals, various meats (even deli options) and a fantastic line of in-house teas makes this the only buffet I would recommend, as I’m not typically a buffet fan.

Proximity to Family-Friendly Activities

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is in the Upper Village with ski in/out and proximity to plenty of other activities like the Tube Park, trails and also rentals and dining options.

Pet Friendly

Do you have a pet you like to bring along on your travels? Look no further, you will always see a family dog or two tagging along through the grand lobby or tied up in the shade near the pool.

Amenities

At the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, you will be happy to feel like they’ve thought of everything. Umbrellas for a rainy day? Yes. A daily newspaper? Yes. Hand sanitizer and sunscreen dispensers throughout common areas? Yes. Robes and slippers? Yes. There is also a Spa I keep meaning to try out (hey, there’s always next time!).

If you’re a ski family, this is a great choice for ski-in/out and close to plenty of other snow fun!
