Kid-Friendly Cannon Beach, Oregon: 5 Reasons to Stay at Surf Sand Resort

surfsand

Our first trip to Oregon meant a couple of days in Portland (loved it, will write more soon) and then an hour and a half drive West to the Coast. We loved Cannon Beach so much, we’ll definitely be back! Here are five reasons to stay at the Surf Sand Resort in Cannon Beach.

Kids Eat Free

Yes, you read that right. This is huge. We have three kids so being able to save approximately $20-25 per meal is big. There are two restaurants to chose from, one for breakfast and lunch (onsite) and one for lunch and dinner up the street.  They even have car service if you and hubby want to enjoy some wine at dinner (which we did!).

Haystack Rock

Haystack Rock is an intertidal monolithic rock jutting out of the amazing Pacific Ocean within short walking distance (5-10 minute walk). At low tide, you can explore the rock base and find star fish, crabs, sea anemone and much more. Birds such as puffins and terns live on the rock.

Waves and amazing sand beach

Mike rented wetsuits and a board and took the girls out to play in the waves. They had an absolute blast! The resort has a surf shop adjacent which also offers surf lessons.

Beach Fires & S’mores

Each night, the resort offers a community bon fire for anyone to enjoy, but also your own private setup if you prefer. It costs $25 to book a private bonfire which includes wood, setup, ingredients for s’mores and roasting sticks. The girls thought this was the absolute coolest way to end the day.

The View

We stayed in a suite overlooking the beach with a balcony. We set up all three girls in the Master King bed in the back of the suite so that Mike and I could enjoy the balcony and sound of the waves all night long with the door open into our sofa-bed living area. It is simply breathtaking.

The resort has plenty of amenities such as an indoor hot tub and pool, craft classes/drop-ins for the kids, allows pets, offers weekend wine-tastings and ice cream socials and when you check in, each child gets a sand bucket & shovel (plus a huge bin of sand toys are available on the beach).
