Summer in Whistler with Kids

I recently had the opportunity to take my two youngest daughters on a quick last minute road trip to Whistler for an overnight stay at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

My eldest and I have been traveling to UNC regularly for a clinical study she’s participating in and the other girls were feeling left out and left behind on these trips.

So, while my husband took Nya to UNC, I packed up the girls and James and drove the beautiful sea to sky highway to Whistler.

We absolutely love Whistler in the summer because it’s always warm and sunny and there is so much to do.

But before I get to my list of favourite summer stuff to do with the family on Whistler, I want to quickly share why the Fairmont Chateau is always our first choice for accommodations in Whistler for both Summer and Winter.

FAMILY FRIENDLY

kids bathrobes, cribs and mini-fridges available in rooms for families. They also have rollaway beds which we always use for our family of five to book only one regular room for our family.

The restaurants all have kids menus and my girls actually request the lounge for dinner to have the kids pasta. The breakfast buffet in the Wildflower has a huge variety with smoothie and espresso bar, full hot breakfast, cold cuts, made to order omelet station, huge selection of fruit, granola, bread and pastries too.

While you’re sitting around an outdoor fire pit on the lounge patio listening to live music, there is a huge grassy area with outdoor games like jumbo-sized Jenga for the kids. My girls love to practice gymnastics, roll around in the grass and play tag. It’s wonderful to be able to relax and see them at the same time.

FREE SHUTTLE

The free shuttle to the Village and back is so very handy! We use the shuttle to get to dinner, to explore in the Village, and get around town with the fam.

THE POOL + SPA + GYM AREA

The pool area has both indoor and outdoor hot tubs and pool area, a full gym, and sauna. The pool deck has so many soft loungers, it is one of the very best places to sit back and enjoy some sun with a slushy cocktail in hand. My girls always get a smoothie too.

SUMMER FUN

PEAK 2 PEAK

Take the lifts all the way up to the peak of either Whistler or Blackcomb mountain and then ride the 11-minute gondola Peak2Peak across to the other peak. It is the highest lift, longest unsupported span in the world. We love to see the beauty of both mountains from either peak and the lifts up.

ADVENTURE ZONE

The Adventure Zone offers cool rides and games for the kids. Between the bouncy castle for the younger ones, bungee trampolines, go-karts and more. Our favourite, every summer, is the Westcoaster Slide which is like a mountain slide on mini-luge.

BIKE AND HIKE

There are countless trails around Whistler for both mountain biking and hiking. We grabbed free hotel bike rentals (free because we are Presidents Club members with the Fairmont, sign up for free) and biked an easy 10 minute trail to Lost Lake for a picnic.

ZIPLINE

There are several zip lining locations around Whistler. Mike and Berlin zip lined with SuperFly ziplines last summer and had only amazing reviews of the 600+ ft elevation, multiple lines and all-day adventure.

There is so much to see and do in Whistler, we try to get up there every Summer, even if it’s only for one night like this year.

Head to Whistler in the Summer!
