Traditions: Meat, Mother’s Day and The Keg

This post is part of the YummyMummyClub.ca and The Keg Steakhouse + Bar #TheKeg sponsored program. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. This post reflects my personal opinion about the information provided by the sponsors.

So what are your family traditions that have passed down from when you grew up to you now raising your own family?

One of mine is definitely a steak dinner together. As far back as I can remember, having steak for a family dinner together has marked something special.

Whether we were celebrating a special occasion, or it was just any old warm summer evening, having steak as a family has always felt special to me. Probably because I can remember it from my childhood! I remember steaks always being well-done. In fact, until I met my husband, I had never even tried a medium-cooked steak!

My husband makes a mean steak on our coal barbecue, and we always include my mom when we do that on summer weekends. Steak was even our main course at Easter this year when both my Mom and Mother-in-law came over to celebrate. Filet Mignon (beef tenderloin) with bearnaise sauce is our go-to cut. It’s simply the best!

When we want to go OUT for steak, The Keg Steakhouse + Bar is our go-to. We have one in our neighborhood we love to bring the girls with us to for special occasions, but when it’s date night, we head to Yaletown for its young hip downtown vibes.

For the purposes of this campaign, I was blessed to be able to take my Mom to The Keg Yaletown this week. I was SO excited because The Keg is HER favourite restaurant! Plus, it had been years since she had been.

The timing was perfect, as well, because she has just spent four full days caring for my three pets and three kids last week while my husband and I went out of town.

This was the THANK YOU I wanted to be able to give her, and I’m grateful to The Keg for having made it so very special.

We started by sharing our favourite appetizer of all time, Mushrooms Neptune. It’s crab and cheese stuffed mushroom caps baked steaming hot! My Mom even fixes a recipe similar to this when she comes over to have a barbecue night at our place. The buns were a delightful addition.

One of our dinner companions (we had several moms joining us!) tried the Tuna Tartare and it looks simply divine as well!

We enjoyed red wine then, to accompany our steaks. We both ordered the Filet Mignon 7 oz which comes bacon wrapped and with bearnaise sauce, the very best! The garlic mashed potatoes at The Keg are absolutely unbelievable and a must when enjoying a meal here!

I also added a cluster of Dungeness Crab with drawn butter. This is my absolute most decadent dinner wish!

After stuffing our faces and enjoying a quality glass of red wine with it, we relaxed by the fire for a while before diving into our delicious desserts!

Thank you to The Keg Steakhouse + Bar for this wonderful night out with my Mom. What are you doing for your Mom and what are you wishing for from your family for Mother’s Day?
