2017 Acura MDX: Family Friendly Vehicle Review

The Aura MDX is an extremely popular “Mom Vehicle” in my neighborhood. I would go so far as to say it is the most popular vehicle in my children’s school parking lot! No lie.

So I was excited to drive this beauty for a week.

I was interested to see why it’s so popular, after all.

I loved that the MDX is large, but doesn’t feel large. It reminds me of my minivan, in the way that it handles, actually. In comparing minivans to larger SUVs, I always find that the bigger vehicles drive so rigid, like a truck. But the MDX handles more like a car, very smooth and easy to zip around in. It truly doesn’t feel like a truck.

I love that it seats 7, with the third-row seat. With that row folded down, there is plenty of cargo space too. It would be ideal for family road trips!

Acura always offers the best bells and whistles (I’m a little biased, as I’ve enjoyed Honda vehicles myself for the past 13 years).

I love the technology integrations of Apple CarPlay, steering wheel controls, and key-set memory of seat location and adjustments. Automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and dual infotainment screens are standard; navigation and rear-seat entertainment are optional. A hybrid, powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 and a trio of electric motors is also available.

I think for a cross-over 7-seater, this one might be my favourite too. I suppose it makes sense it’s the most popular family vehicle in my neighbourhood!

The styling and convenience of the Acura MDX doesn’t come cheap, however. You have to make a conscious decision to spend more than you would for a minivan or domestic crossover. The Acura MDX starts at approximately $56,000. What do you get for that additional spend? Acura vehicles typically have much higher resale value later on, are extremely reliable, and are high in quality ratings.
