9 pm is the New Midnight on NYE

Is it just me or is New Year’s Eve better celebrated with the kids before midnight?! As much as I love ringing in the new year with my loved ones I especially love not having to deal with grumpy little people on January 1st. So we usually celebrate with the kids much earlier and pretend that we have rung in the new year together.

The plan for this New Year’s Eve is to have a little party with the kids before 9 pm; we have:

  • Party Hats
  • Noise Makers
  • 2016 Glasses
  • Candy (and I will be making popcorn too)
  • Balloons
  • Sparkling Apple Juice (I picked up some plastic wine glasses at the dollar store to make it extra special)
  • And Netflix

Netflix has launched six on-demand countdown specials that we can use to ring in the new year anytime! In my house the magic number is 9 pm and we will be queuing the countdown to correspond with that; and you can too, just search  New Year’s Eve Countdown on Netflix and choose a show that works for your family. You can choose from: Puffin Rock, Care Bears & Cousins, Inspector Gadget, King Julien, and favorites from DreamWorks Animation like Mr. Peabody and Sherman and Project Mc2.

I suspect we might be watching more than one countdown here since my Henry loves Mr. Peabody and Sherman and my Oliver loves Care Bears & Cousins but only time will tell! Either way my little ones will have a special New Year’s Eve way before midnight and will have a much more pleasant start to 2016!

As for once the kids go to bed, my husband and I have a tradition of our own. We have a date-night-in where we have a special dinner (usually seafood), enjoy a bottle of sparkling wine and ring in the new year with the live countdown!
