Around Vancouver Town: 2014 New Year Edition

Around Vancouver Town

With winter in full swing there is plenty to do in our lovely town to take advantage of the crisp cool weather.

Whether you’re an avid skier, snowboarder or prefer apres ski activities, you’ll find this edition of Around Vancouver Town chock full of wintery fun. And for the kids, keeping them busy by keeping them moving and engaged in the arts is a great way to have the most fun and makes for happier nap times.

And of course if your idea of taking advantage of the weather means staying indoors where it’s cozy there’s still plenty to do to stave off the January blues.

Arts Umbrella

Early Learning

An inspired introduction to self-expression for children ages 2 to 6, Early Learning classes provide young learners with their first experiences with the arts, at a key point in their cognitive development. Emphasis is placed on exploration, creativity and fun in classes that engage each age group in play.

Parent & Me classes transition young learners into the learning environment with topics such as Creative Dance, Visual Art, and Making Music.

Beginning the investigation into various mediums brings the arts to the youngest of learners in age-appropriate, engaging and enriching ways.

Classes start this week and then again in April.

Kid-Friendly Places ~ a fantastic interactive app!

Have you ever decided to go to a cafe, maybe somewhere new, then discovered when your newborn’s diaper exploded that there’s no change table in their bathroom?  Or maybe you wanted to grab a quick bite at a restaurant with a friend or two when you were all hungry, only to discover that they don’t have even one single high chair for your squirmy one-year-old?

Kid-Friendly Places (designed by Melissa Nunes from East Van) shows cafes, restaurants, accommodations, stores, activities, parks & other places that are rated as child-friendly by members.

The application shows spots that are good for breastfeeding, where the change tables are & other details that you need to know when out on the town with a baby or a toddler.

For more information check out Lisa Corriveau’s blog, Spokesmama.com.

Winter Social Nights on Grouse Mountain

I’ve put this in because it looks fun but I’m not sure if its a singles thing. I plan on checking it out with hubby in tow though! Here’s what they have to say.

‘Looking for action on Wednesday nights?’

Head to Altitudes Bistro atop Grouse Mountain for Winter Social Nights. Strap on your snowshoes and hit the trails, put on your boots and hit the slopes at the Peak of Vancouver, then head to Altitudes Bistro to recuperate and replenish.

Starting a 6pm every Wednesday, we’ll have prizes, DJ tunes, food and drink specials provided by Granville Island Beer.
Grouse Mountain Social Nights, Every Wednesday at 6pm, Jan 8th to April 2nd.
Have a wonderful week and here’s to getting some ‘action’!
