Collage Collage

Collage Collage at Kingsway and Fraser is not one of your typical Vancouver craft stores. The creative space offers studio space, classes, camps and birthday parties for kids from six months old and up. They also have a small but well-curated selection of books, kits and craft supplies to get you and your little ones creating. Get a feel for what you’ll find in-store by browsing online before you visit.

Urban Source

For something a little different, check out Urban Source on Main Street. Billing itself as “Vancouver’s number one choice for alternative art materials for over 20 years” this is the place to go if you’re looking for something a little bit different. They source safe, usable supplies like discards, misprints and overstocks that would otherwise end up in the landfill. Their bulk barrels are full of fun. Grab a bag and fill it with whatever takes your fancy for a set price.

Opus Art Supplies

With four locations in Metro Vancouver, including Granville Island and right downtown, this is one of the most iconic Vancouver craft stores. It’s really a high-end art supply store, but there is plenty there to capture a child’s imagination. Plus, there are educational philosophies, like Reggio Emilia, that believe children deserve high-quality art materials just like grown-ups. After all, if we want them to take their work seriously, shouldn’t we take it seriously, too?

DeSerres

DeSerres is actually a national chain, with two locations in Vancouver and one in Surrey. They have a great selection of craft supplies for kids, as well as some slightly higher-end drawing and painting supplies. What really sets them apart on the list of Vancouver craft stores is their customer service – they’re consistently very highly-rated on Yelp. No matter what your favourite craft, you’ll find something here. The only question is whether you’ll ever want to leave.

Dressew

This store on Hastings sells fabric and a whole lot more. Whether you’re looking to stitch something cute for your kids, or you’re looking for craft supplies like lace, beads, buttons, ribbon, feathers and a whole lot more, add Dressew to your list of Vancouver craft stores. There are a couple of things to note before you go. First, they do not accept credit cards, so bring cash or debit to pay. Second, they only answer the phone between 9:00 and 10:00am in the morning. Your best bet is just to drop by and see what they have to offer.

Bonus: Creative Children

If you’re up for a bit of a drive, or you live in the area, Creative Children in Port Moody is one of the best Metro Vancouver craft stores. This warehouse caters to teachers, daycares, schools and parents who are on the hunt for a great variety of affordable educational materials. If you’re looking for something in particular do flag down a staff member for help, because it can be hard to track down a specific item in the large space. There is an extra charge on orders under $50, but we have never managed to get out of there without spending at least that much. And if you’re in the area be sure to visit Rocky Point Park across the street for some playground time and a fabulous ice cream cone.
