Hats Off to Moms

Zumba-Class-01

January 2011 ~ Edmonton’s Mayor Stephen Mandel declared January Postpartum Depression Awareness Month in Edmonton, Alberta, and surrounding area; the first city in Canada to proclaim a period of awareness for Postpartum Depression. Each year this Awareness Period continues to grow, now reaching across Western Canada… And beyond.

We are celebrating this awareness period by creating an opportunity for Canadians to get involved and bring much needed attention to Postpartum Depression & Perinatal Mood Disorders.

Event Details:

Join us on Saturday, January 18 from 1 – 4 PM, at the Salvation Army Church Gym (St. Albert) for an exciting event, featuring:

+ A Zumba Master Class

+ Guest Speakers

+ Door Prizes

+ Healthy Snacks

Tickets:

$15 in advance, $20 at the door.

All proceeds from this event will go directly back into PPDA which is registered non-profit organization run by volunteer mothers who have experienced some sort of perinatal mood disorder, and want to share their experience, strength and hope.

Mothers are far more likely to seek treatment for PPD when their communities are educated about the illness…

This leaves us with the question of: what can we do to reduce stigma & judgment, and create communities where moms will seek help, get quality healthcare, & non-judgmental support from family & friends?

The answer is: We need to create opportunities for awareness & education!

Canadian Moms are raising our next generation, and their mental health is of top priority!

Thank you for your support!
