Like a Tank: 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe

We recently had the opportunity to take the 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe on a family road trip.

We have been considering an SUV purchase (we’ve been driving a mini-van for years) for a while now so it was great to drive the Tahoe for a week, and let my husband experience it too.

FEATURES I LOVED

SAFETY

It is a tall, solid vehicle. It makes you feel like you’re the ‘king of the road’ and that you could literally drive over other vehicles and survive any type of crash. It feels safe, really safe.

APPLE CARPLAY

When you plug in your iPhone, it sees your home screen. You can voice text, have texts read to you, and use music seamlessly.

AUTOMATIC RUNNING BOARDS

This vehicle is so tall, running boards are a must for me (I’m not tall. Ha.). These automatic running boards are so swank, I am in love with them.

WIFI

We did a road trip with the whole family and everyone brought their devices. My girls thought it was the coolest thing that they could use YouTube and Netflix on our journey, IN THE CAR! Plus, I was able to do social media catch up, use my maps, check email all while on the road in the U.S., so I wasn’t roaming!

This also means you can use your Spotify account while driving and listen to absolutely anything you want, because WIFI.

The cost for monthly WIFI and OnStar service ranges from $15 to $70 per month depending on how many gigabytes you need.

ELECTRONIC DASHBOARD

We crossed the border on our trip (as we often do, living a few minutes from Washington State) and we loved that the dash and all controls could be easily switched from KM to MPH and from Celsius to Fahrenheit. It took only a few seconds to make the change.

As for things I didn’t love, it does drive like a truck. When you’re used to a mini-van, this feels a bit rigid and large (I say ‘like a tank’). I was also disappointed in the trunk space. We travel with 3 kids and a lot of gear, so the back of the truck was a bit cramped, surprisingly. If I were to purchase this vehicle I would get the GMC Yukon XL or Chevrolet Suburban (slightly longer versions of this same body style) to make up for the lack of trunk space.

WHAT’S NEW FOR THE 2017 TAHOE

  • Standard Teen Driver feature. It encourages safe driving habits with teenagers, enabling parents to view the vehicle’s maximum speed, distance driven and the number of times active safety features were engaged during a drive
  • Perforated, leather-trimmed heated and vented driver and passenger seats are standard on Premier
  • Available rear seat entertainment system upgrades that include HDMI/MHL connector, additional USB port, digital headphones and device projection; new video voiceover feature benefits visually and hearing impaired
  • Chevrolet MyLink adds in-vehicle shopping apps
  • Available Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking
  • New exterior colours: Blue Velvet Metallic and Pepperdust Metallic

For the price as driven (approx $85,000 Canadian) I would like a little more cargo space while the third row is being used.
