Modern Mamas Guide to the Calgary Baby and Tot Show

Modern Mama Calgary is so excited to be a part of the Calgary Baby & Tot show this October! We have gathered a few of our favourite tips for families bringing their babes and tots down to the BMO center this weekend.

  • Assemble your crew invite people to come with you to make sure you have extra hands to help with baby or tots who will want to explore and see everything. Bringing your husband, parents or a friend will allow you and baby to be happy and see everything you want.
  • Pack Light if you’ve out grown the hands free baby carrier days my favourite combo for busy outings is a small stroller and a backpack. If you have a little one that will require a stroller pack the umbrella stroller for navigating crowds with ease. There is stroller parking (along the northwest side of the hall) if you want to park the stroller and roam for a bit.
  • Research before you go there are over 100 exhibitors I love checking online and taking a peak at some of the exhibitors before the show. Here is the list of exhibitors at this year’s show make a note of one you want to see.
  • Plan ahead to see a show or catch your tots favourite character for a meet and greet! Check out the online schedule and set a reminder in your phone for 20-30 minutes before the show so you can head over and get seats. This year at the show there will be a live show from Barney and Bob the builder. Also there are meet and greets with Paw Patrols Marshal, Barney, Little Charmers Lavendar, Ariel, Belle, Darth Vader, Frozens Ana Elsa and Olaf. There is a special meet the pups from AARCS too! View the full schedule here.
  • Seminars for mom: There is also an incredible line up of seminars including baby wearing, fitness after baby, what is consignment, breastfeeding 101, infant & toddler sleep tips and a full listing of seminars are on page 4 of the schedule.

Most importantly have fun! Plan lots of time to be at the show so you won’t feel rushed and everyone will be able to see what they want and to get the full experience. I’m so excited for this year’s lineup there is something for everyone!

Of course make sure you pop by our Modern Mama Calgary booth we will be doing an amazing contest you can enter to win:

Make sure you allow yourself at least 3 hours for the booths and more if your bringing a toddler or baby. Also something to carry all your stuff around if you aren’t bring a stroller as it gets heavy after your shopping!

My tip is bring a stroller to carry all the stuff that you are given. It was a great show. Thanks for the chance to win. I would love the car seat!

My advise is bring your toddler or baby with you as welll as stroller so when buying things you can try them on.

  4. 4

Bring labels with your name, phone number and address on them so you don’t have to write it all down a millions times!!!

Wear comfortable shoes and bring a backpack to carry all of your things in. Also, it was very handy to have my husband with me to carry all of our stuff!

My advise is to try and go with a group, it makes it easier if you need to go to the bathroom, or even to change/feed baby since there’s not a lot of space to bring in a stroller if you have one.

The best way to survive things like Calgary baby and tot show is babywearing and comfortable shoes lol. Honestly a lot of the time there are a ton of strollers and it gets jam packed. Don’t get me wrongs strollers are great for holding stuff but I wouldn’t have survived with out my carrier

Kayla here at Modern Mama do an event called ‘stroller wars’ where you can test different strollers and see what you like about each brand and model – I will be sure to let you know when our next one is

Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as it takes a while to navigate all the vendors with all the stroller traffic jams. It is definitely more geared towards moms with younger children, as a first time expectant mom there were really only a couple vendors that were beneficial for me at the moment.

Bring your own cloth bag or better yet – a grocery wheeled bag because it gets heavy after a couple hours!

It was my first time, and looking back I wish I had researched the vendors more before going and mapped out my course. I had a limited time (2.5 hours) and I’m sure there were a couple thing missed. It was stroller-craziness so small strollers, carriers and backpacks are the way to go! It was great and I look forward to the next one.
