Vancouver Yoga for Kids (and Mamas!)

There’s no shortage of yoga studios in Vancouver, however the vast majority of them cater to grown-ups. If your little ones would like to get their yoga on, though, there are options. Here are five fabulous Vancouver yoga studios and class providers that cater to kids and their families.

1. YogaButtons

Located in Kits, YogaButtons is the city’s first yoga studio that is completely dedicated to children and families. They offer classes for kids from the time they start crawling on up, plus postnatal classes for mamas to help you bounce back after the rigors of childbirth. They also offer birthday parties, if you’re looking for something a little different.

2. Butterfly Yoga

Butterfly Yoga is owned by Christina Taylor. This Vancouver-based mobile children’s yoga program got its start in 2006, and it’s still going strong. Their current offerings include Toddler Yoga at Hillcrest Community Centre and Family Yoga at Kerrisdale Community Centre. They also offer classes for adults if you could use a little bit of zen mama time.

3. Sunflow Kids

This children’s yoga and art studio was started by Jenny, who was formerly an instructor at YogaButtons and the now-closed Twisted Mat Yoga. Their ongoing classes include Yogart for kids aged 2-5 and Kids Yoga for kids aged 6-12 at Douglas Park Community Centre. They also do birthday parties. And if you’re on the North Shore or in Richmond be sure to check out their class offerings for kids aged 2-12 in those communities.

4. Yoga with Lori Lucas

Lori Lucas has a number of credentials, and Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher is one of them. As a former doula it’s no surprise that her studio offers a number of classes for mamas-to-be and moms and babies. She also offers classes just for grown-ups, if you’d like to get out of the house for a bit of Vancouver yoga. You can take her classes at Mount Pleasant Community Centre and Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver.

5. Melissa Rodrigues

Melissa Rodrigues is another Vancouver yoga teacher who combines her love of birth with her love of yoga. In addition to being a practicing birth doula, she offers baby and me and prenatal yoga classes in Vancouver. Her current classes are taking place at Trout Lake Community Centre. Combine yoga with a walk around Trout Lake for a perfect East Vancouver day.
